client The Royal Mint

The Royal Mint is probably the longest-established manufacturer in the world, tracing its origins back over 1100 years.
Tuch has been working with the Royal Mint since 1990, designing publications, product packaging and exhibitions. In 1995 Tuch Design worked with the Royal Mint and their architects to create The Sovereign Gallery in a listed building in South Kensington.
Last year we designed packaging for collectors’ proofs of the £2 coin commemorating the 200th Anniversary of the Abolition of the Transatlantic Slave Trade. We consulted the campaigning organisation Anti-Slavery International to create a balanced story to commemorate this sensitive historical and political event.
On this occasion we had designed the pack cover without prior knowledge of David Gentleman’s final design for the coin. By coincidence we had both focused on the idea of breaking the chains of slavery, effectively tying in the packaging to the product.
