Orrery refresh at Jodrell Bank

Tuch worked with our long term partners Science Projects on the revamp of the Orrery gallery at Jodrell Bank Centre for Engagement, part of the University of Manchester.

The brief

Science Projects had designed and built an Orrery - a hand cranked interactive mechanical model of the solar system - for the Jodrell Bank many years ago, and were refreshing the gallery with other hands-on and screen based-interactives. Tuch were commissioned to design and project manage the installation of the graphics for the gallery and produce interpretive graphics for the interactives. Jodrell Bank had recently undergone a rebrand and their new guidelines gave a clear direction, helping the fast turn around and delivery of a constant design solution.

The design consisted of background and interpretation graphics including lightboxes and

window vinyls, and a large suspended ceiling graphic above the Orrery.

The Cosmic timeline

An 8 metre corridor to the gift shop and exit had an existing etched wall and suspended fibre optics lighting. We created a Cosmic timeline design running from now back to the Big Bang which was installed using a stretch fabic on
